Mist-o is an Italian – Japanese design studio founded in Milan in 2012 by Tommaso Nani and Noa Ikeuchi. Born from two distinct cultures, the studio moves between East and West, blending the precision of Japanese simplicity with the tactile richness and expressive depth of Italian design. Their work spans furniture, product, and interior design, as well as art direction, always guided by a search for balance between emotion and function, spontaneity and control, tradition and innovation.
Before founding the studio, Noa developed his architectural sensibility while working at David Chipperfield Architects in Milan, whereas Tommaso collaborated with several leading design studios, cultivating a refined sensitivity to material, composition, and visual language.
Founded in Milan and based in Tokyo since 2019, Mist-o has grown into a practice that bridges continents. Since 2023, Tommaso has divided his time between Copenhagen and Milan, expanding the studio’s dialogue with the Scandinavian design landscape and its culture of material honesty and simplicity.
Tommaso and Noa’s process is intuitive yet precise, a continuous dialogue where ideas evolve through sketches, prototypes, and reflection until form and purpose align. Their work expresses a quiet sense of order and care, seeking a poetic functionality that connects people to objects through both use and emotion. Their work has been presented at major design weeks worldwide and in exhibitions at Triennale Milano, Museo Poldi Pezzoli, and other cultural institutions, earning recognition such as the Elle Decor Japan Young Designer Award (2016) and AD100 (2022).
