A ceramic ashtray that becomes an incense burner when it is turned over. This is a conceptual contrast between the bad odor of smoke and the pleasant perfume of incense. The object is born and lives in the continuous dialogue between these two “opposing” actions. The dichotomy between these two aspects, ashtray and incense burner, creates a third individual and new entity that contains in itself both functional characteristics of which it is composed but is neither of the two. It lives in a necessary dialogue between its opposites.
